Boaters often need to get creative when they are cooking on board. Let’s face it, to have a good meal on board you usually have to plan well ahead with your menu and provisions… and your boat galley is not exactly a gourmet kitchen.

I tend to always struggle with coming up with something new and tasty to cook on the boat. It has to be easy to prep, not take too long to cook, not make a huge mess in the galley and – most importantly – be super yummy for everyone to enjoy (an especially hard task when trying to please adults and kids on a boat).

So when Sea Ray Boats launched its Galley Gourmet Recipe Contest (running from February 19, 2014 through March 19, 2014), I took notice… mostly because I am anxious to hear more about the recipes entered in the contest!

Boaters enter their favorite on-water recipe for a chance to win a private wine pairing lesson, conducted by a certified Nobilo Wines Ambassador and catered courtesy of Sea Ray.

The contest entries will all be judged by a Sea Ray panel on three criteria:

  • Ease of Preparation (25%)
  • Convenience and suitability (50%)
  • Creativity (25%).

I like that the “convenience and suitability” criteria is weighted more, because it will more likely mean that a winning recipe will actually be practical for a boater.

Here are the details of what the grand prize winner with the winning recipe will receive (according to Sea Ray’s official rules):

An excursion on the water onboard the entrant’s boat for winner and up to 6 guests (all over 21). Excursion consists of: the entrant’s boat (alternately, if the winner does not own a boat, Sea Ray will provide one for use during the Excursion); a Captain provided by Sponsor; an exclusive pairing lesson conducted by a certified Nobilo Wine’s Ambassador provided by Nobilo Wines; provision of boat fuel, catering, transport for winner (and guests) from winner’s residence to marina; and Sea Ray branded prize-pack for winner will be included in Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”). Suitability of Excursion depends on various factors, including but not limited to body of water, access by boat ramp, depth and size of water, weather, proximity to Sea Ray dealer, availability of boat, captain and ambassador, and any other factors which are all in Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion and determination, and are subject to modification, cancellation or change. Excursion must be arranged for a mutually convenient time (subject to Sponsor’s final approval) and completed on or before December 31, 2014, or else will be forfeited in its entirety.

To enter, boaters can go to the Sea Ray website contest page (or their special contest app on the Sea Ray Facebook page) and enter their recipe. Be sure to pick your best recipe because there is only one entry per person.

Contest Winner: Sea Ray has announced that the winner to the Galley Recipe Contest is Anne Mitchell from Lake of Ozarks for her Crazy Fish Sundancer Salmon recipe. Anne says that the “citrusy and tangy marinade” is the secret to the winning recipe.
